Will Dhoom 3 make a Dhoom at Box Office?

Dhoom series is back.… And this time it’s time for Dhoom 3 :)   It is produced by Yash Raj Films’ Aditya Chopra (son of Yash Chopra) and was released in 2004. Earning over Rs. 42 crore ($9 million USD), and the film became one of the top-grossing Indian films of 2004 and Dhoom 2 grossed over 150 crore (US$29.93 million). This movie has brought in a new genre of movies akin to the fast paced motorcycle-robbery dramas and its sequel, Dhoom 2, was released in 2006. The movie had a significant cultural impact among urban Indian youth. It was blamed for an increase in incidents of street racing; bike-borne theft and stunting on public roads.

So will Dhoom 3 make Dhoom at the Box office? What is so special about Dhoom 3 and why is there such a hype about it? Well, guess what? Mr Perfectionist is about to enter the Dhoom Series. Yes the film will feature Aamir Khan playing a negative character while both Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra will continue in their now iconic roles of Jai Dixit and Ali . So what about the leading ladies? Reports are that Katrina Kaif wil be a part of the film.

Following are some of the facts that might interest you:

- Our very own Copy Cat, oops Mr Original Pritam, will return once again to compose the music of the third installment

Dhoom 2 was nominated for several awards that year, but only picked up a few of the major ones. At the Filmfare Awards, Hrithik Roshan won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor, out of five total nominations for the film

Dhoom 3 starts shooting in May 2012

So are you excited to see Aamir Khan in Dhoom 3? Do you think it will be a blockbuster and beat its previous 2 versions? Do let us know your views about Dhoom 3. Also looking forward to know which was your favourite movie.. Dhoom or Dhoom 2?

Are you bored by Celebrity Endorsements?

Dhoni Selling Engine Oil, Sachin selling Inverters, Virat Kohli selling watches and bikes and so on…The list is endless! As you know there are lot of advertisements that are featuring celebrities and to add to it, they are charging crores for the same. Almost every other product is marketed using celebrities and at times it is gets so confusing that you end up thinking who is promoting what.

The most important thing is that the celebrity should be able to connect with the consumer and in this process celebrities’ credibility also comes into picture. The consumer should have a credible belief that the celebrity would be interested in buying and using the product. But there are also times when celebrities distract attention from the message being conveyed. The best example for this is Katrina Kaif in Slice ad, this ad increases the glam factor but the audience hardly focuses on the product and diverts the entire attention on the actress.

Who can forget advertisements, featuring stars like Tabassum (Prestige pressure cookers), Jalal Agha (Pan Parag), Kapil Dev (Palmolive Shaving Cream) and Sunil Gavaskar (Dinesh Suitings). They were classics and one could easily relate these products with the stars promoting these products. A standard example here is Coke, which, till recently, didn’t use stars at all internationally. But in India it was a first for them. The result was a hit where in we remember Aamir saying “Thanda matlab Coca Cola”.

But there are also times when the product suffers due to the actions, behavior or popularity of a celebrity. Everyone was aware of the fact that Tiger Woods was dropped by Nike as their celebrity brand. And the latest one was Saif Ali Khan with the recent punching episode. So when he says “Have I made it Large” the audience will surely recollect his previous acts (misbehavior). In the recent times the market is flooded with celebrities endorsing many products .

Having a new celebrity every few years doesn’t make sense. Not to forget, today’s consumer is well informed and difficult to impress, and they are only influenced by advertisements that are relevant and provide information. Consumers don’t want to have products pushed at them, even if its from a celebrity. So are you bored by Celebrity Endorsements? Do let us know your favourite brand promoted by a Celebrity :)

Show me the Money – Are Stars asking too much of moolah?

“Show me the Money” – You might have heard this phrase in the film ‘Jerry Maguire’ starring Tom Cruise and Cuba Gooding Jr. So why are we talking about it now? Well off lately Bollywood too is gearing up to use this phrase at will.

There was a time when actors were being paid in thousands, then lakhs and then came crores. Well the Crore figure was not so common and a very few were part of this elite club. But thanks to satellite television and its reach to millions of viewers things are changing. Also the Marketing and Advertising industry has managed to rope in the Bollywood stars to sell their products and soon there was a race to say “Show me the Money”. But do you think that the race to earn the highest Moolah is a going out of hands? Well let’s take a tour of some of the most bizarre and crazy facts that might help you to decide for yourself.

Actress Katrina Kaif is truly the empress when it comes to the fashion world. Having an international modeling background, Kats definitely reigns the ramp shows in India. And she is also one of the most sought after actresses in Bollywood. There are reports that she has been offered Rs 1 crore for making a 10-minute appearance in Kochi. She will be on the ramp for just 10 minutes. Just 10 minutes! Well we are not kidding. It’s a fact, she would take home 1 crore in 10 mins. Do ponder and think about it if this trend is going too far.

Next in the list we have Mr Sanjay Dutt. His earlier ventures used to fetch him somewhere around 5 crores a movie. But after his performance as ‘Kancha Cheena’ in the blockbuster, however, Sanjay Dutt has doubled his price. And now he is all set to ensure that he says “Show me the Money”. At least for 10 crores a film, we hope for many ‘Kancha Cheena’ like performances from the actor!

Not far enough is the other star from the movie Agneepath, Mr Hrithik Roshan. Star Plus’s show Just Dance paid the star approximately Rs 2 crore per episode. The show had around 56 episodes, including screening of entries, auditions, and the actual competition. And this did fetch Roshan approximately Rs 112 crore. Yes 112 crore ;) Don’t worry we have not forgotten the Bodyguard of the Film Industry. According to reports, Salman had charged Rs 89 crore for the 104 episodes telecast in the first season of 10 Ka Dum. For the second season he asked for an increment of Rs 44 crore which failed to materialize.

SHOW ME THE MONEY :) Who would have thought of such figures being quoted and even being paid? But it’s a fact that there are channels and Movie makers who have actually gone ahead and fulfilled these crazy demands. But do you think its a healthy trend? As they say that there is always a market correction and then such figures will really feel crazy and might be difficult to pay. Time will only tell what will the channels and movie makers do if that happens. But as of now…. The stars are the people who are demanding and saying “Show me the Money”

57th Filmfare Awards winners are out… Will you still watch the show on 19th Feb??

Now that the 57th Annual Filmfare Award Winners (Check the Winners here) are out in the tabloids, I was wondering whether it would really interest the audiences anymore. Will people be keen to watch the show, scheduled to be aired on 19th Feb!! You might wonder what kind of question is this!! It’s Filmfare, and people just have to watch it right. .?? True to certain extent. But think about it, there are no surprises left for the audience in the show.

So, what reason do you have to watch a show on television, almost 20 days after the winners are announced?  What according to you will still attract the viewer’s and make them switch their television set in anxiety? Let me help you answer to this strange but valid question!

Here are some of the reasons why you might still watch it on television :

  • All the girls out there might like to see the badshah ‘Shah Rukh Khan’ and the handsome ‘Ranbir Kapoor’ on stage (they will be the hosts for the night)
  • Loads of Naach Gana and some sizzling performances, which come packaged with the awards ceremony & act as highlights. This time, the stage shall be enthralled by Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza. No prizes for guessing ,”Katrina Kaif” will be the “Show Stopper”
  • The fashion statement, the starry quotient, the designer dresses attract a lot a Fashion fiestas who watch the show just for the fashion mantras. Entire Fashion industry is keen to showcase their talent through the Celebrities after all it’s a “Starry Night” that sure get’s a lot of camera & media attention. It’s Manish Malhotra vs Vikram Phadnis and the list goes on, each one wanting to create the maximum buzz with the dress that the beautiful ladies adorn
  • How can we forget the PJ’s, some light & some tough humor cracked by the hosts on their own film Fraternity and not to forget their arch rivals ;)  (Kantaben was hit amongst the all)
  • Some more Dance performances and jokes that lack any humor. And not to forget the al-laa thank-you speeches by the winners, the anxiety on their faces & the smart acts by the editing team; whereby the audiences is made to believe what it is not

Did I forget something… What about the artists who won the awards, what about the films that were nominated, what about the real reason why this award show exists….. Cinema!! Well who cares about that anyway. You are well aware of the winners in advance, so why worry about them. Some of you might feel that I am taking it too far, but let me ask you this one question… Would you not like to see Filmfare Awards Live on Television rather than recorded and edited version? Are we asking too much of the likes of the superstars to perform live in front of the audience?  You will all agree that they have enough talent to performance live, so why are they not challenging themselves to go LIVE ;)

Do let us know your views on this topic. Don’t the audience deserve to see their favorite stars win awards LIVE on stage? Or they just deserve to just to see the performances ;)  (The Naach Gana Show)

You cannot use Filmfare and Oscars in the same sentence…Can you??

Here you go, you might say that I have already used  Filmfare and Oscars in the same sentence ;) Just Kidding. Time to get serious…

Filmfare is just around the corner and Oscars too will be out with its Nominations on 24th Jan. So what are we talking about !!!! The reason for writing about this topic was to clear the air between to the two Awards. There are a section of people, oops fans that say that Filmfare is the Oscars of Bollywood. Where as the other section of fans don’t agree. They have gone one step ahead and said “How can you use Filmfare and Oscars in the same sentence?”

So, what next !!  Following are some of the points that might help you to decide if you can (not) use both the award functions in one sentence.

  • It is said that Filmfare only nominates movies that are a huge hit and does not encourage small budget movies and movies that have failed to earn corers.
(Example : Filmfare has two awards for Best Movies – Popular and Critics) In my opinion, there can only be One Best Movie… like the Oscars.. What say!!!
  • Some say Filmfare focuses more on performances during the awards, and somehow end up ignoring the real hero “Cinema”
(Well, i don’t think I need to give an example, you might all agree with the performance example.. Right !!) Oscars always gives preference to the Movies and its makers.
  • Need I mention about the low standard of Jokes year after year at the Filmfare functions…. (Sorry SRK fans, but just sharing the truth)
( You might say that even in Oscars, they crack jokes… Well, do you mean Cheap Jokes.. or just Jokes )
  • Did you know that Katrina Kaif has been nominated for Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (Best Actress)… Let me ask you… do you think that she even deserves to be nominated for this prestigious category ??  You can chek the Nominations in the earlier Post “Are you ready for the 57th FilmFare Awards 2012!!
  • And the best part, did you know that Vishal Dadlani and Niranjan Iyengar have been nominated for  Best Lyrics category for their song Chammak challo (RA.One) Are you surprised?? Shocked?
There are many such examples, and the list is endless. By this time you might have labeled me a Oscars fan, and me being biased to the Oscars. Well this is not true. I have been growing up watching both the awards. But somehow overs the years, there have been so may Award Functions that have sprung up in India. And every other Corporate house and TV channel are promoting their awards shows. Hence in a sense to prove which is better, these award functions end up doing the impossible and the unimaginable drama to get TRP’s. It would not be wrong to say that it’s as good as a Naach Gana show. I am not saying that we should be like Oscars, but can’t we have one award function that really celebrates Cinema… The real Hero.
As always looking forward to your views on this topic. Happy Viewing.

Film Promotions on Television : Is it a healthy trend??

Yes… off late this has been a common trend in Indian Television Industry. Every other week we see film promotions on various shows, be it Reality Shows, Dance or Musical shows. So where is this trend going? Sonam & Neel Nitin makes an appearance in (Bigg Boss season 4) recently to promote Players, Imran and Katrina seen in India’s Got Talent (Mere Brother Ki Dulhan), Shahid and Sonam seen cheering the contestants of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs (Mausam) and many more… the list is endless. Every now and then film stars are seen dancing, singing and judging various reality shows.

Earlier these celebs use to make guest appearances in some of the reality shows stating it to be one of the special episodes and now the audience is wise enough to understand that this guest appearance is just to promote one of their flicks releasing on Friday. I often wonder why do these Big banners needs this kind of promotion, answer to this is attract the mass. TV and especially REALITY Show is one Medium which reaches out to every household in India. Adds and celeb interviews are common these days and it limits the viewers age group..I mean how many viewers above 40 would actually sit and watch celebs interview after all!! I am pretty sure every household follows one reality show at least or at least one daily soap so why not capture their attention and promote the movie to all age group. Television shows are huge hits in India and now it’s serving to be a gold mine for film promotions as well.

How does channel producer react to this new trend…well it’s a win-win situation for the both the parties, both get mileage out of this. Appearance of a movie star adds more color and spark to the show, increase their TRP too. It’s also a treat for the audience to have their favorite actor making appearance on various shows making them tune to a show which earlier they might not be following.

I personally feel that these promotions have gone overboard when the entire crew makes appearance on every possible show. There has to be a connect between the movie script and how it is presented in the reality show. The manner films are being promoted today kills the essence of promotion of films as well the show. We the audience feel cheated when we are forced to see a celebrity enter our favorite show every other week! Somehow the link of the television show is broken and the smooth flow is not seen. The focus shifts from finding the best Talent (Singer, dancer or any other talent) to the stars who go on and on about their films.

So viewers what’s your take on this?? Do you feel cheated as well or do you enjoy the weekly promotions of every possible movie!!………  Looking forward to your views on this topic……

Rajneeti Promotion in Lucknow through Radio Mirchi

Prakash Jha along with Katrina Kaif,Ajay Devgan and Manoj Bajpai, was in Radio Mirchi studios ( Lucknow) for the promotion of the film.

Jha discarded that Katrina has played a non-glamorous role in the movie.”Katrina has portrayed a beautiful, young glamorous lady in the first half of but in second half, when film takes a twist, she has been taken a non-glamorous avatar,”

Mr Jha said the script took six years to develop.

On the controversy of Kamal Rashid Khan claiming the title of the film belongs to him, Jha said everyone needs popularity and this was mere an act to come into the limelight.
Denying that the character of Katrina Kaif is based on the character of Sonia Gandhi,  Jha  said Katrina has played a strong lady with glamorous role in first half to non-glamorous role in second half and this has nothing to do with any political personality.
Katrina Kaif, answering a question, said she watched several videos of lady politicians.
”Prakash gave me video footages of several lady politicians including Sonia and Priyanka Gandhi and this role has nothing to do with either Sonia or Priyanka,” Katrina said.Katrina also  hired a hindi teacher for this role

”This is not a  documentary or  preachy film,” she added.

Ajay Devgan, the actor of the film, said characters of the film have the shades of the characters of the great epic ‘Mahabharata’.

Prakash Jha said “Ajay plays Karna, Ranbir Kapoor plays Arjun,Manoj Bajpai plays Duryodhan and  Katrina plays Dropadi

Answering a question, Ajay said that politics has become a dirty game and good people are no more joining it.
