Well, well, well… More than 10 shows have shown a hike! Unbelievable! Ratings have kept fluctuating since 3 weeks now. Last to last week, IPL had fallen, then it rose and this time again it has fallen. Same is the case with a few shows. Once a particular track works, ratings increase, else, vice versa. Is it too difficult to judge Indian audience? The answer lies in the question itself! Nowadays, in this fast paced life, people do not have time plus they get bored very easily. They have ‘n’ number of options. It doesn’t take any time for them to switch the channel if they do not like a particular show or its track. It takes a lot, to get your TG hooked on to your show. Curiosity works the best. It’s a tried and tested formula. Hardly goes wrong. You create some curiosity and your audience is bound to come back and watch your show the next day!
Diya Aur Baati Hum still tops the charts followed by Ek Hazaron Mein, Yeh Rishta and Balika Vadhu. EHMMBH, YRKKH and BV have shown an awesome hike in ratings! Current tracks of all 3 shows are working completely in their favor. Kudos to the team!! Also, Balika Vadhu completed 1000 episodes last week! Another milestone in the history of Indian Television after “Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka” on Sony TV and “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi” on Star Plus who respectively completed their 1000 episodes years back.
Zee TV’s Punar Vivah is going really well with the audience. This week it has also become the slot leader in 10.30 pm slot; followed by Pratigya, Bade Acche Laggte Hain and Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha.
And the much awaited ratings of Satyamev Jayate are out! Great effort by the team and I wish and hope it does bring about a change!
Last week, DID Li’l Masters ka bahot halla tha, and this week it dipped! But the kids are adorable plus, you get to watch fine performances by them!
GRP wise Star Plus is still at number 1 in GECs, followed by Zee TV, Sony TV and Colors respectively.
Well, that’s it for today. Let’s see what surprise next week brings. Till then, keep watching your favorite shows and keep supporting your favorite IPL teams.

Some other reality television shows or other crime based shows and how they performed last week:

DID Li’l Masters toh chhaa gaye hain !!! Jahan dekho unka he bol-bala hai..

The show has got 6.2 TVR, which is Remarkable!

Again, I’m very happy to see so many numbers in Blue. But this time, IPL has ruled again; as you can see above, Max has the highest TRPs. Star Plus has still maintained its top position in GECs and this time have also shown a hike in its GRPs. Zee TV fans be happy; as it has gained its number 2 position after competing with Sony TV for quite some time now. Sony is now on number 3 as per GRPs, followed by colors on number 4.

Kyaa Hua Tera Vaada has picked it up so well. ‘Kaalit potna’ track managed to actually gain ratings. The current track is very interesting and it clearly depicts that audiences love it. Last to last week its rating was 1.7 which increased to 2.2 and now it’s 2.4. It has shown a consecutive hike past 3 weeks. Now, I really hope this consistency is maintained!

Shocker is, now Bade Acche Lagte Hain is not the only top show on Sony TV, it has to share its position with Kya Hua Tera Vaada. Now the big question is; will the magic of Kyunki-Kahani be recreated? Considering both the shows and the time slot 10-11 pm; will that happen? What do you think?

Sudden decline has been noticed in Tarak Mehta Ka Oooltah Chashma on Sab TV. The creative team needs to show something very different and not make it so monotonous every week.

Ek Hazaron Mein Meri Behena Hai, Saathiya and Yeh Rishta have managed to increase. Last week’s decline helped them to come up with newer tracks and a fast pace story which has been witnessed today in terms of ratings. Good Job!

Well, that’s it for today. Let’s see what surprise next week brings. Till then, keep watching your favorite shows and keep supporting your favorite IPL teams.

Sony Six – India’s Premier Sports Entertainment TV Channel to hit your TV soon!

So what is this new channel all about? And what does it have in store? iDubba is all set to share the information with you. This new channel is called as “Sony SIX. The name itself might suggests that it will be a full on Sports Channel. Well you are kind of right. It is also known as India’s Premier Sports Entertainment TV Channel. So let’s dig into this new Channel ;)

In a nation where cricket dominates all sports, MSM’s channel SIX, will air a range of non-cricket sports including martial arts, basketball, football and badminton. But is this a right time to launch this channel? In an already crowded space, Sony MIX is India’s 13th sports channel and it is operated by MSM (Multi Screen Media Pvt. Ltd) India, which also owns Sony Entertainment Television and SET Max. Most sports tournaments are already broadcasted by rivals ESPN-Star Sports (ESS), which owns ESPN, Star Sports and Star Cricket, Taj Television, which runs Ten Sports, Ten Cricket, Ten Action+ and Ten Golf, Nimbus Communications, which has Neo Sports and Neo Cricket and the government-owned Doordarshan Sports.You might ask that what will be different about this channel ? What kind of sports will it air? So let’s find it out.

MSM India owns the broadcast rights in India for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), New Zealand Cricket, FA Cup and NBA. As of April 2012, SIX has started showing the highlights of the IPL. News is that MSM has signed a content tie-up deal with UFC, for a four-year year period to access its library as well as live mixed martial arts fights events. Did you know that MSM has rights to broadcast IPL till 2017? And did you know that going forward, Season 6 of IPL will be shifted Sony SIX? Surprised? Shocked? Well this news is true. So will this bold move be a success? We will have to wait till the next season of IPL to find out the answer. Hang on there is also some good news for the audience; SIX has announced that it will not show any advertisements for the first 3 months :)

So do you think that this new attempt from Sony might work? Will the viewers tune into this new sports channel? Well time will only tell if this works. Do let us know your favourite Sports Channel and why you like it.

Happy Viewing.

IPL is ruling, but not-so-much now. Last week we did see some of the interesting matches. But IPL has not seen any more considerable hike in GRPs of Max. It is 344 (341).

Diya Aur Baati Hum still is at number 1 position. But the ratings over-all has declined. Last week, we did not see much effect of IPL on the shows. Few have remained same on the list, few rose and a few fell. So, juggling has been happening! Producers and writers have really got best of their interesting twists to glue the audience. Many other shows like Dekha Ek Khwab, Choti Bahu, Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli, Adaalat, CID and Crime Patrol, etc. has shown a hike. This is a good sign for the GECs. If the interesting twists continue, ratings will show a positive hike. And as IPL keeps on going, matches become more interesting during its finale; there’s lots of DRAMA to be unfolded in the coming weeks in your favorite TV soaps. Stay tuned!!!

Bade Achhe Lagte Hain fans rejoice!!!! It is the only show which has rose 0.4 points since last week. And the promos are intriguing too! iDubba’s predictions proved to be right! Priya got to know about the truth and the track is leading towards Ram-Priya’s separation. But, there has to be a ‘twist’ in this too! Watch out for it guys!!! My intuition says, we all will ENJOY watching!

Last week, new show has been launched at 9.30 pm on ZEE TV – Phir Subah Hogi. It replaced Ram Milaye Jodi. And it has got decent opening of 2.2. The show really seems promising. Let’s see does it turn out to be a lucky mascot for Zee or not!

That’s it for this week. Stay tuned @ iDubba for more!

IPL TRPs:

  1. DLF IPL- MI/RR Mumbai Match: 5.26 (RANK 1)
  2. DLF IPL- DC/MI Visakhapatnam Match: 5.20 (RANK 2)
  3. DLF IPL- CSK/PWI Pune Match: 5.14 (RANK 3)
  4. DLF IPL- CSK/DD Delhi Match: 4.55 (RANK 4)
  5. DLF IPL- PWI/KP Pune Match: 4.35 (RANK 5)

All thanks to IPL 5, numbers ko aur gira diya..!!! Yeh toh shuruat hai bhaiyyaa… aage aage dekho hota hai kyaa..??? Set Max has gone up with 82 points in GRPs. It is THE number 1 channel currently. 2 weeks down the IPL and Set Max has risen. I wonder what will happen when the quarter finals, semi-finals and finals will be aired!

Diya Aur Baati Hum rules the TRP chart this week also, followed by Saathiya and Ek Hazaron Mein Meri Behena Hai. As IPL ratings have been higher this week, it has clearly reflected the decline in GEC’s ratings. All shows have gone down. A few of them have negligible increase of 0.1 like Dekha Ek Khwab, Sasural Genda Phool and Adaalat. But this hardly makes any difference as they are not in top 5 shows. On Sony TV, all shows have maintained their last week’s ratings except Bade Acche Laggte Hain. It has declined from 2.4 to 2.0. In 10.30 pm slot, all shows have declined. It is definitely the IPL asar. Because 10.30-11.00 pm is the last pick time for IPL matches! Yeh toh hona he tha. And, Set max is airing BALH promos between IPL matches, still it’s ratings are not improving!

On the other hand, CID and Crime Patrol have also declined. All thanks to IPL.

CIDFri – 3.0 (3.4), Sat - 3.2 (4.4)

Crime PatrolFri - 2.4 (3.1), Sat - 3.1 (4.1)

Adaalat: 1.9 (1.8)

Writers and Production houses are striving to increase/maintain their ratings. But it seems it’s just not working in their favor. I hope, they do not lose hope; and show something really interesting to keep the audiences glued to their channels.

In GECs, Star Plus still rules at number 1 position followed by Sony TV, Zee TV and Colors. There is a tough competition for the second position. Every week it keeps on shuffling. But this week, Sony has managed its number 2 position same as last week.

That’s it for this week! Next week let’s see what jumbling these numbers do! Till then, keep watching your favorite shows and keep supporting your favorite teams at IPL. Stay tuned for more on idubba.com, Say Om Cricketay Namah.

[Note: We have not yet received TRPs of individual IPL matches. Will update the blog if we receive it.]

Filmmakers are no longer afraid of IPL!!

Sounds strange, right? You might have seen Bollywood all over the IPL Opening Ceremony, so why are we talking about Filmmakers vs IPL? Well, IPL started from Wednesday April 4 and runs till May 27 – With nine teams and 76 games across 12 locations. So will Bollywood manage to get attention of the audience during this period? Well only time will say who wins this Summer Slam?

From the last few seasons of IPL, Bollywood has really a tough time in the summers. Considering IPL as a threat, filmmakers had either postponed/preponed their films or preferred not to release in that period. Not only small films even the big budgeted or the big star cast or the heavily anticipated films opted to stay away from IPL. However the scene is not same any more. 2012 will see maximum releases in these 2 months.

Following is the list of movies that are all set to catch your attention and might make you skip some of the IPL Action:

- Sajid Nadiadwala’s ‘Housefull2‘ (April 6)

- Actor John Abraham’s maiden home production ‘Vicky Donor‘ (April 20)

- Viacom 18 Motion Pictures’ ‘Bittoo Boss‘ (April 20)

- Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ‘Ferrai Ki Sawari‘ (April 27)

- Priyadarshan’s action-thriller ‘Tezz‘ (April 27)

- Emraan Hashmi-starrer ‘Jannat 2‘ (May 4)

- Karisma Kapoor’s comeback film ‘Dangerous Ishq‘ (May 11)

- Yash Raj Films ‘Ishaqzaade‘ (May 18)

- And finally Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Department‘ (May 18)

Here are some analysis of the movies that were released during the previous seasons of IPL :

During the first three IPL seasons Bollywood was hit hard  and year 2008 saw the release of big films like Tashan, Bhoothnath and Jannat . However Jannat was the only movie that was successful. And in 2009 Bollywood did not have any big releases. But in 2010 there were enough releases but it was only Balaji Motion Pictures Love Sex Aur Dhokha (LSD) that emerged successful.  However, the fourth season of IPL and year 2011 saw a turnaround for Bollywood. The filmmakers dared to take on IPL and films like F.A.L.T.U, Dum Marro Dum, Shor in the City,  Ragini MMS,  Haunted 3D did some good business.

So who will be the real winner? Are filmmakers now ready to overcome the fear of IPL? Or will IPL 5 make a dent at the Box Office? In short it’s a double Dhamaka during the summer vacation season for all. Do let us know your views about this unique competition.

Are you ready for a power packed IPL-5 Opening Ceremony?

Asia Cup is also over and it’s time for IPL 5 to take over our television sets and to add to the excitement this year IPL 5 has roped in loads of Bollywood stars for the Opening Ceremony. The IPL Opening Nite will be held at the YMCA Grounds in Chennai on 3rd April, a day before the matches commence.
Every year the Opening Ceremony has been one of the major attractions and a destination too for Bollywood stars. This year too is no different, but the organisers have gone one step ahead and have managed to convinced the mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan to host the opening ceremony of the fifth season of Indian Premier League (IPL). Yes you read it right, Big B will host the opening ceremony. Do expect millions to be glued on their television sets once Amitabh Bachhan is back on television, who underwent two abdominal surgeries last month. To make things more interesting the organisers have got Mr Dabang aka Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra to be part of this opening extravaganza in Chennai.

Well the audience will not just have Desi stars but will also be able to watch American pop sensation Katy Perry on stage. She first gained recognition with the release of her first mainstream album, One of the Boys in 2008, which spawned three Billboard Hot 100 top-ten songs—”I Kissed A Girl”, “Hot n Cold” and “Waking Up In Vegas”. Perry is the only artist to spend over 52 consecutive weeks in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100, and has since heightened this to 69 weeks. As of 2012, Perry has been nominated for eight Grammy Awards. She was named 2011′s “Artist of the Year” by MTV.

Season 5 of the IPL will feature 76 matches, over a period of 54 days in the month of April and May. Total of nine teams are participating in the cricket league. The opening ceremony will begin at 7:30 pm and guess what? The tickets for the ceremony are available from March 16 and the starting price is Rs.1,500.
Oh yes one more thing…Cricket fans need not get disappointed, as the show will also feature all nine team captains taking the MCC Spirit of Cricket pledge, which has been on display since the competition’s inception in 2008.

So get set for the grand opening of IPL – 5 and also do keep your pop corn stock ready for this amazing event.

Happy Viewing.

It’s time to cheer for your favourite teams – IPL is Back

After loads of controversies and lots of hue and cry, IPL is finally back. Yes, it’s time to cheer for your favourite teams. This is the 5th season of IPL since the launch in 2007. The opening and closing ceremonies will be held in M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, the home venue of the reigning champions Chennai Super Kings. The tournament will begin on April 4 and end on May 27 2012. This season the number of teams in the league went from ten to nine with the termination of Kochi Tuskers Kerala.

Who will you be cheering this season !!  Chennai Super Kings / Deccan Chargers / Delhi Daredevils / Kings XI Punjab / Kolkata Knight Riders / Mumbai Indians / Rajasthan Royals  / Royal Challengers Bangalore or Pune Warriors India ;) Thanks to Sahara, Pune has been renamed as Pune Warriors India.

Recently the 2012 auctions were held and there were some players that have recently entered the “MILLION” league of players. 23-year-old Ravindra Jadeja, whose base price was $100,000, went to Chennai after the tie-breaker between the two teams – CSK and Deccan Chargers. He was sold for a staggering amount of $2 million (approx. Rs 9.72 crore) .Crazy right !!!  And the second most expensive player was Mahela Jayawardene (SL) with 1.4 Million, bought by Delhi Daredevils. Well that’s not all as some of you might be surpried when you see the players that went unsold at this years auction. Those include – VVS Laxman (Ind), Ajantha Mendis (SL), Mark Boucher (SA) Ramnaresh Sarwan (WI ), Ravi Rampaul  (WI), and 7 other England cricketers. Strange but true ;)

IPL has somehow always lived up to the expectations and sometimes beyond it. Not many sports have an event where you can enjoy a specialized T20 game like cricket which already calls for a lot of entertainment with the bat and bowl, along with cheerleaders dancing to your entertainment at every fall of a wicket or score of a boundary. And not to forget the Bollywood stars cheering their franchise with the crowd. Overall, it adds color to the event which makes it more of a festival than just a game.
So are you ready to be a part of the Cricket’s biggest Carnival !! Do let us know your favourite Team and Players.
Happy Viewing

Is the Indian audience ready for “Ring Ka King”??

Indians must have been familiar with the concept of Akhaada, and the Wrestling competitions, known as dangals, held in villages. But soon this will take the center stage and will soon come into your living rooms. Don’t worry, it’s totally safe ;) Colors channel has launched a new sports entertainment reality show called ‘Ring Ka King’. It consists of 30 wrestlers (Indian and international). Most of us have grown up watching WWF and TNA (Total Nonstop Action Wrestling). We are very well aware of the concept, but as this is a new show, let’s get to the details ;) The reality show is set to debut on Colors Network on January 28, 2012, and guess what; Harbhajan Singh has been signed on as goodwill ambassador.

Ring Ka King” will spread over 13 weeks and will end just before the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches begin. (perfect timing) In the first four weeks, viewers will see some exciting matches that will crown a heavyweight champion and a tag team champion. And in the subsequent weeks, the champions will get a chance to save their title and fight against the other contenders, who will come their way and throw open challenges to claim their belt.

Well, you might say what’s new about this show!!!

Don’t you think that it’s kind of outdated content? No doubt that WWF and TNA were a huge hit, and also had some amazing wrestling stars that we all remember even today. But as time has gone by, the audience is aware that it’s all scripted and the fights are as good as fake. It will have the same drama, almost same action and stunts. So, why does Colors want to get back this old horse back in the limelight?. May be they are trying to promote the Indian Wrestles and trying to give them the exposure that they deserve. Also it might be an attempt to give the Indian wrestlers an International exposure.

So will you watch “Ring Ka King”? The show has been produced by Endemol, and no doubt that it has created shows like “Indian Idol“, “Bigg Boss” and “Fear FactorKhatron Ke Khiladi“, but will “Ring Ka King” take them to the next level…. Well, only time will tell…. 13 weeks to be precise!

Top 10 shows on TV during 2011

We are just two days away from 2012. So in this special blog post iDubba brings you the 10 most popular shows/events of 2011. The ranking and popularity has been taken in consideration on the basis of activities done for these shows on iDubba in 2011.

  1. ICC Cricket World Cup 2011: There is definitely no surprise to see this event on top because 2011 as year is the biggest for India as we witnessed Indian team winning World Cup after 28 long years. Sports channels had the highest TRPS ever.
  2. MTV Roadies (Season 8): The longest running reality show with eight seasons in its kitty it is already in news for its ninth season starting next week. There has been a lot of speculation about the show being scripted but it still remains one of the most watched and favourite among the younger lot.
  3. Indian Premier League 2011: Another cricket event. So that makes the score 2 in total and that is definitely not astonishing in our country where second God is cricket despite being hockey as the national game.
  4. Splitsvilla (Season 4): Another reality show of MTV channel that targets youngsters. This reality show based on dating certainly knows how to turn heads. Bunch of hot girls and boys put together in a house to woo each other. What will you expect? ;)
  5. Koffee with Karan (Season 3): This chat show is my personal favourite and the only chat show that I can sit and watch without getting impatient. This one undoubtedly has a fresh and witty appeal to it. The show began to air in 2004 and has been a huge success since then.
  6. Bade Achhe Laggte Hain: Produced under Ekta Kapoor’s banner of Balaji Telefilms, who is undoubtedly the queen of Indian soap operas, “Bade Ache Lagte hai” which was launched in second half of the year, has Saakshi Tanwar and Ram Kapoor in the main lead. This show has millions of viewers across the country glued to the shows.
  7. Bigg Boss (Season 5): Another controversial reality show that is in news always for wrong reasons but manages to gain one of the highest TRPs. It is full of masala and entertainment.
  8. Man vs. Wild (Season 3): Finally a documentary cum travel based show in the list :) . Discovery Channel’s Man vs. Wild is hugely popular especially because of its daring presenter Bear Grylls who is seen at ease at the worst places possible in the world.
  9. Taarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma: This sitcom is based  on the column ‘Duniya Ne Undha Chasma’ (which loosely translates into “Seeing the world through upside-down glasses”) written by Indian columnist and journalist Taarak Mehta for the Gujarati weekly magazine Chitralekha. In August2010, it beat one of the top shows to become the most watched TV show in India.
  10. Kaun Banega Crorepati (Season 5): This game show has been a massive success since it was first launched on Star Plus in 2000. However Sony TV bought its rights from third season onwards and the recent season 5 that had its first ever contestant winning the prize money of 5 crore rupees.
